West Country Speed-hillclimbs,
Sprints and Autocross
Memories of my 25 years as a
commentator 1974 to 1998
standing in the paddock at the Werrington Park Hillclimb, surrounded by
all the paraphernalia necessary to put on a club motorsport event, I realised
that while it was all here today it would be gone tomorrow, and unfortunately,
gone in a hundred different directions with any lasting record broken into
a hundred fragments. My interest in speed-hillclimbing, sprint-racing and
autocross was first aroused in the early-1970's and my direct involvement
began in 1974 as the commentator for many of the South West region's events.
Needless to say, during the last twenty or so years I have gathered together
a unique collection of programmes, results, drivers' information sheets
and photographs - sufficient to produce that missing lasting record.
hope that when you read through the following pages you will be able to
understand what it is that motivates someone to spend a small fortune on
a car just to race it for a few seconds on a Sunday afternoon and that
you will also appreciate why the rest of us are prepared to drive a hundred
miles on a Sunday morning just to stand and watch.
so many years in the commentary box at so many westcountry autocross, speed-hillclimb
and sprint events, it is fitting that http://www.patjennings.com/
become the spiritual historical home for ageing racers wishing to reminisce.
