Finlake Park Hillclimb Course
I've always thought of Finlake as a lost opportunity.
First used in the mid-90's this wonderful course just outside Chudleigh
Knighton in South Devon had everything. Being in the grounds of a holiday
park, it's all there - restaurant, bar, accommodation, touring pitches,
toilet blocks, excellent viewing, etc., etc....... Unfortunately
the original idea of combining a mini-Motor Show with motor racing failed
to reach its potential, when it was discovered that the economics of exhibiting
were out of tune with the costs of running the park. Shame!
Never mind, the racing was terrific and so brilliantly
organised by the Torbay MC (see www.torbay-mc.co.uk
) using all the experience gleaned from so many years at Oddicombe. Any
Finlake event was a challenge for the driver, since the track was almost
as slippery in the dry as it was in the wet, and thus making a wonderful
spectacle for the spectator. |
